QASHQAI LEADS THE QUALITY STAKES
Influential independent survey reveals Nissan's innovative
compact crossover to be more reliable than rivals
ROLLE, Switzerland (May 04, 2011) - For the fourth year running, the Nissan QASHQAI has achieved a top ranking in one of Europe's most demanding quality surveys.
The popular crossover has achieved a top ‘very reliable' score from the prominent ADAC breakdown organisation in Germany, Europe's largest automobile club representing more than 16 million members. The leading Japanese-badged model in its segment, QASHQAI was beaten only by premium German brands and finished sixth (out of 22) in its class, ahead of key competitors such as the VW Tiguan, Ford Kuga and Toyota RAV4.
QASHQAI wasn't the only Nissan model to be recognised in the ADAC's 2010 Breakdown Survey (Pannenstatistik). The Nissan NOTE came fifth in its class (out of 23), also showing four years of continuous ‘very reliable' performance, while the outgoing Nissan Micra achieved ‘very reliable' status in 2009 and 2010.
QASHQAI and NOTE are built in Europe by Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK (NMUK) as was Micra before it made way for JUKE at the Sunderland plant.
QASHQAI is no stranger to ADAC success. Earlier this year it came third overall in the organisation's annual ‘Gelber Engel' (Yellow Angel) award, which recognises reliability and customer satisfaction. It was beaten only by an Audi and a Porsche.
"These outstanding results underline the exceptional build quality engineered into all the cars produced by NMUK. We are particularly proud of QASHQAI, our biggest selling model in Europe. Its performance in the ADAC surveys shows how we continue to deliver top-class quality even when we are working flat out to satisfy the huge demand for this exceptional model," said Simon Thomas, Senior Vice President, Nissan Europe.
The consistently high quality levels achieved by the latest generation of Nissan vehicles comes as a direct result of a co-ordinated and focussed strategy in Europe, led by a dedicated specialist team of experts from Nissan's European Aftersales, Quality Assurance, Research and Development and manufacturing plants in the UK and Spain.
QASHQAI SUCCESS
Nissan QASHQAI was launched in 2007 as an innovative and attractive alternative to the mainstream hatchbacks that dominate the European C segment. Its appealing combination of SUV looks and the practical qualities of a more conventional family car created the compact crossover segment. QASHQAI was an immediate sales success and continues to dominate the segment, its popularity boosted by a major facelift in 2010 which further enhanced the vehicle's quality and refinement.
Since launch, more than 835,000 QASHQAIs have been sold across Europe to secure the crossover crown for Nissan... and it's a position that's getting stronger thanks to the popularity of QASHQAI's younger brother JUKE, launched last year.
QASHQAI is now the fifth best selling model in the Europe's C-segment behind four traditional hatchbacks - VW Golf, Renault Megane, Ford Focus, and Opel Astra - and claims a 4.9 per cent segment share.
Available in two versions - the five seat QASHQAI and seven seat QASHQAI+2 - there's a choice of two petrol and two Diesel engines and front-wheel drive or Nissan's intelligent ALL-MODE four-wheel drive.

Note to Editors:
To ensure the ADAC's Pannenstatistik survey gives a genuine picture of a car's quality, it covers models between one to six years old, and which attain sales in Germany of more than 7000 a year. It analyses all the roadside breakdowns attended by the ADAC, and the results are published in the Association's magazine, ADAC Motorwelt, which is seen by an estimated 19 million readers.
